EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Regardless of a student’s background, disadvantages, or socioeconomic status, everyone has skills, knowledge and abilities for society. It is our job as educators to help students to first determine their potential and then to reach it. Utilizing a variety of educational tools, strategies and approaches, combined with lessons designed to appeal to the interests, motivations and experiences that each student brings to the classroom, we can assist my students become the best they can be.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
My first Bachelor’s Degree is in Anthropology, but I have also studied linguistics, history, art history, mythology and English.
I earned my second Bachelor’s (in Education) from the University of Ottawa, with qualifications for grades 4 through 10, specializing in History, Social Studies, and English.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have volunteered for three years in elementary classrooms, from grades 4 through 6, providing one-on-one support for those students that needed extra assistance.
I taught History and Art (Gr. 7 & 8) and General Studies (i.e. English, Math, Science, Phys.Ed., Literacy, Art – Gr. 6) as requirements for my Bachelor of Education.
I also taught English at a summer camp, with students from a variety of linguistic backgrounds (Spanish, French, Korean, Arabic) and ages (from 8 to 16 years old).
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I coached high school Senior Boys Soccer for three years, Midget Girls Basketball for one year, and elementary boys and girls basketball for one year.
In addition to coaching, I have spent more than a decade working and volunteering for several different community theater organizations. I have worked as an actor, stage manager, artistic director, set builder, and front of house.
