My role in education is to encourage and facilitate maximum effort, as well as a desire to discover new ways of thinking. As a life-long learner myself, I try to inspire a love of discovery and challenge. Hard work, methodical and organized thinking, and creative approaches to problem solving, all characterize my thinking about education. Struggling students, in particular, need encouragement and guidance to re-think how they approach math problems. Emphasis on basic skills often must come first, prior to achieving progress with new concepts.

I received a B.A. degree in Anthropology from Pennsylvania State University. Several years later, I earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from New York University, which led to a 20 year career as a hospital administrator at Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC. In 2000, I began my educational career as a NYC Teaching Fellow. A requirement of this program was to obtain a Masters in Secondary Mathematics Education, which I was granted from St. Johns University. In addition, I am certified for Secondary Mathematics Education in both North Carolina and New York.

I have taught middle school mathematics for two years. In addition, I taught high school mathematics for seven years. I have also done some private tutoring.

In North Carolina, I volunteered at the Greenfield Lake Family Resource Center as an algebra tutor. At JT Hoggard High School, I was a member of the Honors Society Committee, the School Improvement Team, and the Common Core Task Force.
