EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

I was a tutor at my university and learned that giving students tools to find answers is much more efficient than giving them the answers. I believe that anyone is capable of learning when given the proper tools. I also think that education is the most important thing that we can give to others, and the most important thing to invest a majority of our time and energy in. Education has been the biggest and most important thing in my life for a long time and I want to share my love of education with others.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Growing up, I was always at the top of my class and never struggled with any subject. When I got to college, I found that I didn’t know how to study and this made my first year difficult. When I found my own rhythm and developed better study habits, I got a job as a tutor at my university and found that it even helped me in my own classes. By my senior year, I had made Dean’s list several times and was invited to join many of my university’s honor and leadership societies. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science from Southeast Missouri State University with a minor in Chemistry.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I was a tutor for three years at my university. My manager quickly moved me up into the open lab position, in which I tutored several students in various subjects at any given time, sometimes several students at once. I was able to work with students with disabilities and adults who were older than I was and hadn’t been in school in a decade. I had many hours of tutor training and learned how to adapt to various learning styles and techniques.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

During my undergrad career, I volunteered and was a member of many clubs and societies. I was in a premedicine club, and cofounded a biology club and served as president for a year. I was nominated to join a leadership fraternity, which required volunteer work to maintain membership. I was also in four honors fraternities and societies, which had monthly meetings and responsibilities.

STANDARDIZED TEST RESULTS

I received a composite score of 30 on my ACT exam.
