EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
My educational philosophy is that education is a collaboration or an apprenticeship between the teacher and the learner. An instructor must take time and spend energy in transferring skills and knowledge through a variety of avenues based on the learner in question. A learner must take responsibility and devote time to practicing the desired skills or using the knowledge. Together as a team, both the teacher and student can be successful in any educational endeavor.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I possess a Bachelor’s degree in English and returned to college to obtain my teaching certification. I completed several Master’s level courses as part of the certification process. I have maintained a 3.6 GPA throughout my college career.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I began my teaching career with two long-term substitute positions in the 9th and 12th grades for the same school district. I then obtained a full time teaching position as a 7th grade English teacher. In this position, I specialized in teaching a writing and grammar curriculum. My favorite aspect of teaching writing was facilitating a writing workshop for my students, which allowed them to access writing and technical ability through their own interests.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
During college and high school, I was a member of the yearbook staff. In college, I served as head copy editor for the newspaper. In this position, I was responsible for reading all newspaper content and providing appropriate grammatical and stylistic changes as was necessary.
