EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that all students can experience success in my classroom, and through that success, their understanding and enjoyment of learning will grow. It is my goal to create innovative and lifelong learners and to provide my students with strong transferable life skills. I am confident that my use of differentiated instruction and scaffolding in the classroom will encourage student interest in any subject that I teach.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I have a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Brock University. I am an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), with intermediate/senior qualifications. I have a Master of Education from the University of Western Ontario and my Special Education Part One qualification. I held a Canadian Graduate Scholarship, an Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and maintained a 3.94 or higher GPA throughout my academic career.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have completed three successful teaching practica in the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. I taught grade 11 visual arts, grade 10, 11, and 12 English and co-taught the Ontario Literacy Course. At another high school, I taught grade 10, 11, and 12 visual arts. I am currently a supply teacher with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and have experience tutoring at both the University and Secondary level.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I have been involved with the Society of Graduate Students as an Education Representative. I have sat as the Chair of the Graduate Teaching Awards Committee. I have extensive experience coaching, including soccer and hockey. I have been involved in various clubs, including the Gay-Straight Alliance club. I have volunteered in the Early Literacy Summer Program for Thames Valley District School Board.
