EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning in pursuit of meeting educational standards. This follows the “show, not tell” method of instruction.
Educators should be primarily focused on being able to meet the needs of all students and help them reach and exceed standards through differentiated instruction. In order to be successful at appealing to all learners, the curriculum must be relevant, engaging, and challenging for students. Through collaboration and self-directed learning, students will become effective critical thinkers in and out of the classroom.

In terms of assessment and instructional strategies, students will be evaluated based on summative and formative forms of assessment. The important key to remember in this profession is to have a balance within your instructional methods. Students should be provided feedback whenever practical, but make sure it’s specific and connected to their learning goal.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and English at St. Mary’s University in May 2010. I went on to Acadia University where I received my Bachelor of Education diploma. My primary focus is at the secondary level, but I do have experience teaching at the elementary as well.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have worked with young children in the LINKS program (tutoring for children with learning disabilities). I also have worked in the pubic and private sector throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality. I taught at all three levels of education (elementary, junior high, and high school).

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Over the years I have been heavily involved in the community. I have coached baseball and hockey. I have also been on school events and helped the youth within my community.
