EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that academics should be meaningful, challenging and fun. It is helpful if students are taught more than one way of completing a task since all students do not learn the same way.
Teachers can learn as much or more than their students from their students. I find that both the student and the teacher learn a great deal if the student explains how to perform a particular task.
It is also important to know my students’ interests and incorporate this into their lesson plans. Positive reinforcement and patience are necessary for students’ improvement.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University. I then obtained my Masters in Adaptive Technology from Southern Connecticut University in 2013. I have studied and worked with students with various learning and behavior issues. I attend workshops and read to further my knowledge of new research and techniques of teaching special needs students.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been both a general education and a special education teacher since 2007. I enjoy working with students in both the classroom environment and one-on-one to address their individual needs.
In addition to this, I have also worked with students diagnosed with ADHD, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, Downs syndrome, speech impairments, etc. In addition to this, I also have experience as a tutor with both students in adults.
Another area I specialize in is working with students who need assistance with study skills and organizational help. In many cases, these skills can be overlooked and I strongly believe that is it vital for all students to learn how to study.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am a Literacy Volunteer. I also enjoy reading history, Toastmasters, traveling, and bowling.
