EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe our students are our greatest teachers. Teaching is about facilitating an environment where students are at the center of their learning. I aspire to develop curriculum with a focus on real-life, scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and hands-on lessons that make science and learning the most exciting and beneficial experience possible for students.
It is essential for teachers to provide lessons in which students take responsibility and have fun being active participants in their learning while building self-confidence.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Secondary Education and am currently a certified teacher in the state of Virginia. I am also currently working towards my Master’s Degree in Education.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I’ve taught high school biology and environmental science for three years in Suffolk, VA. I was the lead biology tutor for the school and received “Rookie Teacher of the Year” my first year teaching. Before having my own classroom I was a biology tutor and worked with students during their regularly scheduled biology class. I have also been a long-term substitute for biology and an alternative education program.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I love being outdoors and moved to WA to be close to the mountains and water. I’ve spent my whole life living and working on boats, so I love sailing. This is where my love for biology came from as I always saw such interesting things living in the ocean and bays. I enjoy skiing, biking, cookouts, reading, and watching movies and comedy shows.
