EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

As an educator I will promote and enhance critical thinking, while striving to simultaneously make learning fun and exciting. I believe that a teacher is a guide, a, a mentor, a confidant, a disciplinarian, an informer, a provider and a facilitator. I will provide my students with components that foster a positive learning environment, such as encouragement, caring, understanding, positive feedback, appreciation, patience and respect.

I will incorporate technology and use simulations (differentiated instruction) to accommodate the diverse levels of multiple intelligences. Ultimately, with my beliefs, I strive to positively model learning as a lifelong virtue and encourage students to excel in their achievements through meaningful experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I received my Ontario Secondary School Diploma under the old curriculum and therefore did my grade 13 (OAC). I then attended Trent University and received my Bachelor of Arts in the Honours Program, with a major in English. I then attended Trent University for teachers college and received my Bachelor of Education with teachables in English and History. I am a certified teacher in Ontario.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently in my fifth year as an occasional teacher with the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. During my time with the board I have had two long term occasional positions. I taught grade 10 and 12 religion second semester of 2012. I also had a long term occasional position teaching grades 7 and 8 in March of 2014.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

During my university career I did a great deal of voluntary work. From volunteering in classrooms to volunteering with the local parish. During my teaching placements I also assisted with extra curricular activities such as chaperoning dances and helping run and organize a cultural event, called Around the World in one Night. Personally, I was on student council in high school as well as was a member of and coached the high school cheerleading team. Currently I play women’s softball during the summer and am more than willing to be of any help with extra curricular activities within the school community.
