EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Educators must be welcoming, friendly, and available to students in order for them to succeed academically. Far too often students feel uncomfortable asking questions or asking for additional help which ultimately detriments their grades and/or their educational experience.

The educator must first be held accountable by encouraging questions and facilitating dialogue pertaining to the student’s strengths, weaknesses, and progressions. Then, the student will gain confidence in his or her performance thus leading to a greater understanding of subjects which were previously found to be difficult and academic improvements will be made.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Central Florida in 2011. As an undergraduate I was awarded Dean’s List recognition. I then obtained a Master’s degree in Political Science – American and Comparative Politics. I also completed a Master’s thesis titled “The Modern Gender Gap in Partisanship and Ideology: A Cross-National Analysis”. I hold a temporary teaching license in the state of Florida.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have experience tutoring students with learning disabilities using a specified teaching plan in the subject of mathematics. I worked five days a week for one hour a day using different strategies to improve memory and skill through repetitive number sequencing both verbal and written. I also worked to improve the student’s social interaction and engagement by frequently engaging in conversation and explaining errors and successes regarding the student’s performance on math problems.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

As a graduate student I was a member of the Delta Epsilon Iota Honor Society where I participated in community service activities such as school supply drives for local elementary students and food drives for students in need at UCF. As an undergraduate student I was a member of a member of the Forever Knights Alumni Association which promoted social networking within the University.

I was also a member and chairperson of the Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity and collaborated with other organizations to coordinate a book drive and school supply drive. While in the fraternity I also volunteered to clean up and re-paint local elementary schools as well as donated dresses for Prom to local high schools.
