Chalk Talk: Grade Point Average

The Grade Point Average (GPA) is an average of the scores a student received in their high school classes. GPAs can follow different scales and have different formats. It’s important to remember that whatever format a high school uses for a GPA, it’s likely that a college will reconfigure the GPA to fit their own format, so the most effective GPA is the simplest. GPAs are based on academic classes, so sports and other activities aren’t included, even though some of these might count towards graduation credits. The GPA usually arrives as a number score, though some schools give them as letters. Most colleges use a 4.0 scale, and most high schools either also use the 4.0 or use a simple 100 point scale.
