Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ada District Curriculum
The elementary level math curriculum promotes the acquisition of essential knowledge and skills that students need to be successful both in and out of the classroom. Children explore numbers, measurement, and basic operations. Place value is discussed, as is the operation of numbers in base ten. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are essential concepts of the elementary math curriculum as well. Students learn how to properly complete these operations in order to solve a wide variety of problems.
Students are also introduced to fractions, with students learning how to use whole numbers to build fractions. Units of measurement are learned as well, and students develop the ability to convert from smaller to larger units of measurement. Students later use polynomial identities to solve problems and learn how to rewrite rational expressions as well. Expressions are also mastered, with students learning how to write expressions in equivalent forms in order to solve problems. Learners also gain the ability to interpret the structure of expressions.

Chalk Talk: How to Pick the Right College
When college selection times rolls around each year, thousands of kids – and parents – have tough decisions to make. There are obvious factors to take into account when selecting the right college. Cost looms large, particularly today, as cost of attendance continues to rise. There is also the size of the school, it’s course offerings, and it’s distance from home to consider. Additionally, there are some less obvious factors your child must consider. The “feel” of campus is an important aspect of choosing a college. Some campuses seem far too big and overwhelming, while others seem far too small and quaint. A campus visit can help immensely in picking the right college because your child has the opportunity to tour the dorms, classrooms, and other campus facilities. They will also get to meet students and faculty members and get a feel for what the campus is like. Oftentimes the campus visit is what will seal the deal when choosing the right college to attend.
