Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Alhambra District Curriculum

The schools in Alhambra use a framework for learning by which the objectives and expectations within each subject are described. In Math and Language Arts, the Common Core Standards is the curriculum that describes the major learning areas and the sub-topics within each and statewide assessments are aligned to these. For other programs or small learning models, there are curriculum that further explain the additional instructional elements to the program.

In Language Arts, students learn strategies for reading literary and informational texts, using a writing process, and to listen and speak reflectively. Student learn the skills and concepts of numeracy, algebra, geometry and data analysis in Math. These content areas have a wide range of sub-skills, some creative and some technical, and these skills need to be understood in order to be proficient in the subject.  This broad framework prepares students for their education and professional pursuits.
