Chalk Talk: Resume Tips

When putting together a resume, there are a few tips to consider so that the resume truly matches the position that is being sought. Candidates should typically avoid listing jobs such as restaurant servers and sales associates if they are applying for an office job, especially if they are jobs they held in high school. In this section, it is important for candidates to briefly describe the duties they performed and with whom they worked with at each job. Such descriptions are particularly important since the candidate may not have much work experience. Finally, the most important tip for writing a resume is to check, double-check, and triple-check spelling, grammar, and formatting in the resume (not relying on spell-check alone); these types of errors are huge turn-offs to potential employers.
