Allentown District and Curriculum
The Allentown School District follows Pennsylvania State Standards in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English/Language Arts, from preschool through 12th grade. The detailed curriculum includes supports, resources, and sample lessons, using instructional videos and existing children’s literature that have been effective with students.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Allentown District Curriculum
Each grade builds upon the one previous to it, so that the English/Language Arts program focuses upon skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening across all grades. Students who use phonics to decode simple stories in the early grades will read literature and analyze how writers use characterization, action, and setting to create mood and plot in later grades. All subject area curricula is designed to scaffold learning in this manner.
The Allentown School District Math curriculum goes from simple counting and measurement in Kindergarten to complex concepts in algebra and geometry in high school. Students learn how to apply mathematical and scientific ideas to real-world problems, such as ecology and the environment. For example, the study of natural resources can lead to specific ways students can protect them. Keeping Informed: Recent Allentown Educational News
- National DECA Conference - Vocational students at Allentown School District High Schools competed and won awards at a DECA district conference in December. Some of the awards won include competitions in Business Management, Mock Job Interviews, Public Speaking, and Marketing. The winners will advance on to the state conference.
- Dancing with the ... Students? - Allentown School District middle school students have a unique afterschool fitness program --- ballroom dancing. Several dancers performed Latin dances on a Spanish-language cable station in January. One of the middle school Spanish teachers, along with a dance instructor, helped them learn more about the culture. The Allentown School District will hold its first annual ballroom dancing competition this spring at one of the high schools. Is there a mirrorball trophy in their future?
- Future Doctors Start Here - Middle school students in one Allentown School District school received a grant to help them make better food and exercise choices, and to prepare for medical careers. Some students at that school are already working towards future jobs in the healthcare field, and this grant will allow their club more meetings and activities.
