Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Alma District Curriculum
The curriculum used in Alma was developed by the province based on best practices of setting expectations of learning. The expectations of learning represent the basics of what students need to learn within their subjects - for instance, grammar and vocabulary usage in languages, or how to construct a proof in Geometry. These expectations of subject area learning may be arrived at through a range of creative teaching practices, however they establish the essentials that teachers should cover.
The curriculum covers the academic subjects taught in the range of schools throughout the province - religious and intercultural schools, adult education programs and other specialized programs all have curricula that provide similarly detailed expectations of what students should learn so as to be prepared for their next steps.
