Amory District and Curriculum
Amory Public Schools are made up of four schools and a vocational school. To assist in the education of their students the schools are made up of caring educators, including a number of National Board Certified teachers. The curriculum is based on the Common Core State Standards which focus on Math and Literacy and how they support all areas of learning.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Amory District Curriculum
Writing is a part of the Language Arts curriculum at Amory Public School. Children develop fine motor skills in the first years of their education, and then when this has been developed, they begin learning how to write their names and letters. A few years after this these students begin to write book and lab reports, using details such as setting and characters to help describe their books. When they graduate high school, Amory students will have the opportunity to advance their writing skills even more to help prepare them for college, or for life away from high school. In high school the students can choose to advance into journalism, creative writing or even stroke of the pen.
Science at Amory Schools begins by having the children look at the world around them, including items from nature. By helping these children see the science all around it creates a curiosity about the subject. As they progress they begin to learn about topics such as molecules, atoms, DNA and motion. In high school the students are then given the opportunity to focus on one area at a time, such as chemistry or biology. view all Amory tutors

Keeping Informed: Recent Amory Educational News
- National Honor Society - The National Honor Society at Amory High School inducts students every year. These students are characterized have showing excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and character. This group also sets challenges for the students to become involved in service to the community and in school activities.
- Regional Spelling Bee - Amory Schools recently awarded the winner in a schoolwide spelling bee who continued on to place in the top third in the regional competition against 49 other students.
- Culinary Arts Management - Amory High School students from the Culinary Arts Management Team were awarded first place at the ProStart state invitational contest. They now will compete in the national competition in Baltimore. Many of the students from this program have received scholarships to culinary schools.

Chalk Talk: How to Prepare a Kindergartener for Testing
Children in kindergarten, at times, have a difficult time when it comes to testing time. Here are some ideas of how to help them. First of all, try to keep track of how the child is doing in the different subject areas. This can be done by looking at their work each day and by keeping communications open with the teacher. Find out what kind of questions are on the test by asking the teacher, then try to create some questions that are like them. For example, the test may ask a student to choose a picture that goes with three others, such as a hat, with a head and a hand with a …… Another type of question is to choose what items are needed for a job. So, ask the child to think of what they use when they brush their teeth. Let them list them out loud then assist them if they forget items. By checking with the teacher on the types of questions, parents have an arsenal to help their kindergartener do well on their tests.
