Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Anderson District Curriculum
Anderson Public Schools have implemented the Common Core State Standards in Math and Language Arts in order to ensure high levels of academic achievement and preparedness for college. The Common Core Math standards invite students to learn concepts at a greater depth than in the past. They challenge students to dig deeper and truly master ideas before moving on to the next lesson by setting standards that must be met in order to move forward.
In Language Arts, students must incorporate higher level thinking skills as they practice reading and writing across the contents. The skills they acquire in Language Arts will translate to Science, Social Studies, and the other classes they learn; more importantly their skills will translate to the real world. Reading of fiction and non-fiction and writing for a range of purposes are central to the curriculum throughout the grades. Students are also taught skills for critical media viewership and instructed on proper library research skills.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!

Chalk Talk: When Should I Start My Summer Baby?
When to start a child with a summer birthday in kindergarten is a difficult decision. There are several factors to consider; think about your child’s intellectual ability. Can they follow multi-step instructions without having to repeat them? Ponder their emotional maturity; can he or she manage the high demands of kindergarten without feeling emotionally overwhelmed? Don’t forget to think about the long term. If your child is younger than the others in kindergarten, he or she will be younger than others when they begin college. Will they be able to keep up? If you have doubts, let them wait. Give them the best foundation for education possible.
