Chalk Talk: Success for Students in Science
Students often struggle in classes such as science. There are a few suggestions to help them succeed. First, make sure that the children are involved in any conversations to help them succeed. Encourage them to pay attention in class, including lectures or demonstration. This way if they have questions about the lesson they will be able to present it while it is still fresh in everyone’s mind. Plus they will be better prepared for any assignments or if they are called on in class. Help children know that there are not always one correct answer. Science is ever changing which means that there are always new theories being presented. If experiments reveal data that is different than expected, the data is still relevant. Finally, help the children to see that when they are placed in groups they should speak up, even if their ideas differ from the majority. Each person’s input into the group’s work is important.
