Apple Valley District and Curriculum
Students in Apple Valley attend public school in the East Knox Local School District. With just two schools – one elementary and one junior-senior high school – the district is quite small. This means that students and teachers alike enjoy small class sizes that offer the opportunity for individualized education for each student. The mission of East Knox Local Schools is to motivate and inspire children to achieve their highest level of intellectual and personal development. The district achieves this mission by working closely with parents, families, and the community to support and challenge students at each grade level from kindergarten through the 12th grade. As a result of this community-wide effort, students in Apple Valley develop the skills they need to be successful in the modern world.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Apple Valley District Curriculum
Apple Valley’s science curriculum includes a look at various fields of science, including life science, earth-space science, and physical science. The life science component introduces learners to the processes of cell creation and cell division. In earth-space science, students work with various types of rocks and soils in order to better understand the composition of the earth. Classification and identification systems for rocks and soils are introduced as well, which allow learners to categorize rocks and soils based on their specific characteristics. Students explore matter and motion as part of the physical science component.
The social studies curriculum in Apple valley includes an examination of issues that are impacting the world today. Students focus especially on international relations, examining how the relationships between different nations impact the way in which world events unfold. Learners explore the various ways in which nations can work together, including trade agreements, military alliances, and peace agreements. There is also an analysis of how technology fosters a greater sense of interconnectedness among nations around the globe.

In this regard, history is a state of being, rather than something that happened to someone else long ago. History also gives provides a context within which students are able to better understand how things came to be. Gaining that perspective gives students an improved ability to understand the modern world and their place in it. Additionally, history offers the ability to evaluate the actions of those that came before us so we can make better decisions today. This discernment leads learners to be better than those who came before them. Likewise, this drive to improve upon the work of our forefathers is the force people need to create a better world not just for the present, but also for the future.
