To that end, students are able to achieve district goals: to read at or above grade level by the end of each academic year, to use higher order thinking skills (like analysis) to improve writing skills, and to practice continually to ensure pertinent mathematic concepts and skills are mastered each year.

Students at all levels learn how to communicate (to read, write, speak, and listen) by taking part in several different kinds of literacy practice and instruction, including English/Language Arts and Foreign Languages. In addition, following a rigorous mathematics schedule, students learn how to compute, evaluate, and analyze numbers, skills students are expected to put utilize at work and in college after graduating high school.

Chalk Talk: Why School Choice?

School Choice is a program, widely touted in many political circles, that encourages parental involvement in public education by allowing parents to choose the schools their children attend, regardless of the family’s residence location in the state. Typically, in the absence of school choice programs, students are assigned to schools based on their residence location; students are required to attend those schools zoned for people who live in or near a particular district. Districts are funded based on property taxes, which means that some districts are well funded (those comprised of highly valued real estate) while others are not; funding tends to have an impact on achievement levels, as measured by standardized test scores. School choice programs allow parents to have their children placed in schools in districts where they would not otherwise have access. As a result, parents are encouraged to pay close attention to the achievements and occurrences in their children’s schools.
