Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Archbald District Curriculum
Curriculum maps serve as guides for teaching and include big ideas, essential questions, important concepts and competencies that should be covered. Additionally the Valley View School District adheres to the Common Core State Standards initiative in English language arts and math. In Language Arts, students undertake complex studies involving fiction, non-fiction, writing, and a variety of communication and research skills. Students gain tools that allow them to analyze character development over the course of a literary piece. Learners examine plot and acquire the ability to evaluate how tone and setting promote story development; they also learn how to recognize point of view in non-fiction.
The PA Core promotes rigorous and relevant real world learning applications for students to master at the end of each grade level in order to be college and career ready upon graduation. Through integrated technology and innovative programming, the Valley View School District is able to help students successfully prepare for the tasks of the future.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!

Chalk Talk: Common Core - Why Is it needed?
The Common Core Standards were developed out of a need. Prior to Common Core, individual states created the framework and learning goals for their state learners; however, in 2009, it was recognized that there was a need for some clear and consistent learning goals across the states. The state school chiefs and governors coordinated a state-led effort to create Common Core. Now the standards are the same across state lines, and students in Alabama are learning similar concepts and skills as students in Pennsylvania. With stagnant academic progress in previous years, the Common Core hopes to increase the rigor in classroom across the United States and ensure educational equity for students throughout the country. This ensures that standards are raised and all school districts are preparing students for the 21st century.
