Chalk Talk: Money Saving Tips for College

If you have a child heading off to college soon, you’re likely acutely aware of the expense that will be incurred. However, there are a couple of steps you and your child can take to ease the blow to your pocketbook. First, apply for financial aid. Even if you don’t think you qualify for need-based awards, apply anyway. It doesn’t hurt to try and you might be surprised at how much financial aid your child might qualify to receive. Second, encourage your child to take as many concurrent enrollment or Advanced Placement courses in high school as they possibly can. These courses can translate into significant college credit, saving you money in the long run. The more work your child can complete in high school, the better off you will both be once they reach college.
