Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Arlington District Curriculum

The Mathematics curriculum aims to develop thorough understanding of mathematics that will help students to recognize how math functions in the world around them. Over the years, students are introduced to more complex topics in areas such as numeracy, algebra, geometry, and probability and statistics. The goal is for students to learn how to determine the best way to solve a problem, to apply mathematical models in their thinking, be able to communicate their math thoughts, and use logical and quantitative reasoning.

The English Language Arts curriculum was designed to teach all major aspects of communication, so that students grow as critical readers, writers and speakers over the course of their education. The writing portion of the curriculum is increasingly important with essays becoming a standard part of the testing regimen. Students are expected to learn how to write in formats like expository or persuasive, and to use structure in their written work.

Arlington District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The schools in Arlington have implemented Common Core Standards to oversee the English Language Arts and Math curricula and to support the frameworks used in other subjects. These guidelines provide a clear series of objectives that teachers must instruct students upon in order to prepare them for the next stage of learning. With high, yet achievable expectations, district personnel encourage students to develop the intellectual, emotional, and social skills that are required for success in education, work, and life in general.

We currently cover the following Arlington-area school district: Arlington Public Schools.

Chalk Talk: Moon: Facts & Information

All of us have seen a white shining ball in the night sky which changes shape called moon, the only natural satellite of earth. It is believed to have formed nearly 4.6 billion years ago. The moon rotates synchronously around earth and takes about 27.3 days to go all around the earth. The moon has no atmosphere because of its low gravity. The moon’s surface is rocky and has large craters formed as a result of collision with asteroids and comets millions of years ago. The moon’s gravity is responsible for tides in seas and oceans. The moon changes its size regularly and this phenomenon is termed as ‘phases’ of moon. There are mainly four phases: first quarter, full moon, third quarter and new moon. Although moon is the brightest object in the sky after sun, but it doesn’t has any light of its own. It simply reflects suns' light from its surface and its brightness changes with change in its position in orbit.
