Chalk Talk: Communicating with Children
There are many reasons to have a relationship between parents and children, this includes positive communication. This can begin when a child is little by showing them acceptance. This can be done verbally by expressing acceptance when they have done a job. It can also be demonstrated through actions, such as hugs. This type of communication also needs to be expressed at times when a parent is busy. Give assurance instead of telling them not now. Parents also need to be aware of a child's ability to communicate and adjust accordingly. This may mean sitting on the floor or adjusting the vocabulary used. These little steps will help a child feel the love that a parent has for them when talking and acting.
