Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Atmore District Curriculum

Atmore has a school district within the Escambia County Public School System. It is comprised of five elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools, as well as one technical school. The district is accredited with qualified educators who use a
variety of techniques and teaching practices to meet the individual needs of all learners, including special education students and exceptionally gifted individuals. Traditional academic learning is supported by electives and enhanced coursework.

Escambia County Public Schools boasts a Science Center, The Turtle Point Science Center, a hands-on science exploratory experience for all. The Science Center is revolutionary, sitting on twenty acres, and containing all things science, such as reptiles, birds, fish, amphibians, gardens of all types and species, a pond, and plenty of sites to see on the boardwalk. Field trips and group tours are given here, and it supplements all science curriculum standards of the state of Alabama and Escambia County Public Schools.

Keeping Informed: Recent Atmore Educational News

  • FBLA State Conference - The 61st Annual Conference of State Leadership was attended by Future Business Leaders of America. The Escambia Career Technology Center, Brewton students competed along with students from the state of Alabama. There are many categories for competition, such as business writing, tests on production, and performances.
  • Donation for a Noble Cause - The Escambia County Future Business Leaders of America collect a grand amount of can tops for the Ronald McDonald Charity Houses of Alabama. Twenty-one gallons of tabs were collected, which turn into cash when recycled. Little things can really make a big difference for helping those in need!
  • SmartLinks Program - The SmartLinks Program is an opportunity for enrichment for students of Escambia County Middle School. Students can participate in challenging and rewarding activities and lessons in the subjects of Technology, Math, Science, Music, and many more topics. It is a wonderful way to extend the school day for the middle school students.

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is an organization that provides great opportunity for those that are members. Many members choose to major in business fields in college, or go on to work in the technical aspect of business right out of high school. The FBLA has many meetings, conferences, and competitions that prepare and challenge students for the business world. The FBLA Club is an extracurricular activity at area high schools where students can develop their career interests alongside like-minded peers, often working together on projects.
