The Auburn City School’s K-12 core curriculum is comprised of Reading, Writing, Technology, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Music, Art, World Languages, and Physical Education. A standards-based curriculum, it is linked to the high-achieving Alabama state standards. It is accountable through numerous assessments. Every student is certain to have the same  opportunity in this instructional program.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ (NCTM) mathematics guidelines is followed in Auburn City Schools, and with the rigorous standards it is believed that all children can be successful problem solvers while showing proof of their cognitive abilities, communication, cumulation of skills, and that they can make connections to their lives. The learning areas of calculation and skill are precisely detailed in Adding It Up:  Helping Children Learn Mathematics, a nationwide guide of curriculum and instruction. These competencies consist of: knowledge (adaptive and perceptive), showing proficiency in a sum of approaches, understanding various theories (grasping well-thought out concepts, processes,  and associations), demonstrating fluency in measured procedures (skills  in the transmission of knowledge through certain mathematical procedures in many ways), and life-long thinking habits (the way of seeing math as being purposeful and worthwhile in life).

Auburn City Schools has a goal to have all students be attentive to many types of literature, both fiction and nonfiction. The Language Arts curriculum entails requiring the students to be successful in comprehending informational text throughout all subject areas, as well as requiring an increased understanding and appreciation within the literary works that are required for them to study.  The Language Arts guide of study exemplifies a goal of the model of a literate thinker in the twenty-first century. The Science program’s benchmark for the Alabama students is to become scientifically literate. Auburn City Schools’ K-12 science platform has rigorous standards and is outlined by the Alabama Course of Study: Science (Bulletin 2005, No. 20). This course of study prepares students for the chance to be the best scientifically literate students they can possibly be. Many careers of the future are related to science, and it is vital that students show an understanding of the way our world functions in a scientific manner.

The Auburn City Schools’ curriculum for Social Studies and History contains the content that enables students to focus on developing and carrying out philosophical, attentive, and informed conclusions about the social and historical world.  Appreciating and understanding the past is critical in the evolving events of the future.
