Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Auburn District Curriculum

The district has been using the English Language Arts Core Curriculum which focuses on reading, writing, listening and speaking in way that demonstrates a control of the English language and the the ability to apply these skills in the real world. Students learn the fundamentals of literary skills in conjunction with the development of critical reasoning and excellent research abilities. At the middle and high school levels students are able to read complex literature and write compositions and reports that use prior knowledge, well researched, and are related to the broader world.

In the area of Math, students in grades K-5 use the Everyday Mathematics program with a focus on developing key math skills. Students in elementary school will also learn the basics of computation such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions. Middle school students learn to be conversant in algebra, linear equations, rational numbers, and the solving of complex word problems.
