Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Barrington District Curriculum
The curriculum in the seven content areas of English language arts, math, science, social studies, physical education, fine arts, and foreign languages are regularly reviewed by the Curriculum Steering Committees. The district provides learning benchmarks that help parents understand what their children should know, understand, and be able to do in each subject by the conclusion of the school year. The K-12 literacy curriculum is rigorous, with the goal being to equip students with the language and thinking skills needed to communicate effectively.
The standards act as a guideline, reinforcing what students should learn, but allowing teachers to cover that each subject as they see fit. The curriculum used by Barrington School District also covers music, art, reading, math, technology and social studies. Barrington School District understands the role assessments play in attempting to establish these standards. Accordingly, various assessments are used, such as: Program Assessments and Developmental Reading assessments, to name a few.

First of all, community colleges provide a service to everyone. Hence, it does not matter if you did not do well in high school. Community colleges for the most part practice open admission and are willing to accept all applicants. Next, they offer an affordable college option. With the rising costs of tuition, affordability is on the radar for many parents. Lastly, community colleges provide a range of degree programs to choose from. Many of these programs fill an employment niche that universities cannot. Specialized training in certain medical fields and cutting edge technology, are just a few examples of what the community college has to offer.
