Beacon Falls District and Curriculum
Region 16 School District is located in Prospect, CT. Region 16 operates 6 schools including one pre-k program, three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Region 16 services the towns of Beacon Falls, CT and Prospect, CT. Committed to providing high quality educational opportunities for all students, Region 16 follows the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in literacy and mathematics. Additionally Region 16 provides Curriculum Snapshots for Grade Level K-5. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Beacon Falls District Curriculum
Based on state and national standards and essential skills and understandings, the elementary Curriculum Snapshots includes curricular goals for literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, art, music, and physical education. At the secondary level, course descriptions and objectives are provides for mathematics and language arts/English courses. Honors and Advanced Placement coursework is available for students who are academically prepared for the increased rigor.
Assessment is another key component of the curriculum. It is vital because it informs all stakeholders—administrators, educators, students, and parents—of student performances so that appropriate curricular decisions are made to ensure that children are developing the 21st century skills that are needed. Formal whole-school assessments—using school-wide rubrics—are implemented to assess individual students as well as the school as a whole. Region 16 uses the Smarter Balanced Consortium Assessment for students which align with the Common Core State Standards.
