Bellaire District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Houston Independent School District helps to give students an education that will empower them in the global community. The parents, faculty and community work together, with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, to make this goal a reality. The curriculum is a comprehensive series of standards-based frameworks that detail the progression of skills and knowledge that students will amass during their years. It focuses on core topics and deepens understanding in each subject yearly.

We currently cover the following Bellaire-area school district: Houston Independent School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bellaire District Curriculum

The science curriculum at Bellaire Schools includes the study of living things. This study progresses through the broad topics, which include the observable parts of plants and animals, to the more precise study of the processes that help these beings live. Along the way students also learn about cells and their processes, viruses, ecological succession and nutrient cycles. Through the study of science students learn how to question and examine things beyond the general appearance.

Each year, at Bellaire Schools, the social studies curriculum takes the material that was learned the previous year and builds upon it. When the students are in the early years they learn about the people that were involved in settling their area. They then expand their learning by finding out about the United States and the factors and people that helped to build it over the centuries. Finally, their horizons are expanded to include other countries of the world as they find out about the Age of Imperialism, World War I and II, and other governments and cultures.

Chalk Talk: Helping a Child’s Imagination Grow

Learning for a child is enhanced by imagination. This allows students to describe things they are thinking, seeing, experiencing and hearing. Students with imagination are able to observe and try to figure things out. To encourage this, parents can take a child to the library and allow them to explore many worlds and adventure through their imagination. After a trip to a store, allow the child to tell about the things they saw and remembered from the trip. Another way to help a child’s imagination to grow is, after reading a story, ask the child how the story would differ if the child took the place of one of the characters in the book. With these ideas, and more of the parent’s or child’s, before they know it child will blossom in this area.
