Benson District and Curriculum

The schools strive to provide their students with a rich quality curriculum that will follow the tenets of Arizona’s College and Career Readiness standards program, preparing them for college and careers after high school. Common Core Standards form the framework in Math and Language Arts, while similar standards-based frameworks detail the learning objectives in History, Social Studies, Science, and Technology. Areas of student interest such as the arts, community outreach, and career programs are also available for students to pursue.

We currently cover the following Benson-area school district: Benson Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Benson District Curriculum

The English Language/Arts/Literacy programs are designed to ensure that students are proficient in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Language by the time they graduate high school. Students begin in Kindergarten by learning letter sounds and shapes, as well as how to write them. They learn listening skills by hearing stories read to them and comprehension is learned by answering questions about the stories and drawing pictures that represent certain parts of the stories.

Math skills are learned by using objects to add and subtract, as well as learning number recognition. Students learn to organize and group objects by shapes to prepare them for higher level mathematics they will be learning in higher grades. Each progressing year represents a stair step, as students learn new skills that are built upon skills learned in previous years. The goal is to ensure that students have all of the types of quantitative and logical reasoning skills they will need by the time they graduate from high school.
