Benton District and Curriculum

The Common Core Standards were developed to provide a consistent education for all children in the United States, grades K-12, so that graduating high school students are prepared for college studies or to enter the workforce. These Standards are based on teaching children to understand concepts and master learning that is relevant to the real world and is benchmarked to the standards in other countries. The Arkansas Department of Education implements the Common Core Standards in all school districts, including the three Districts in Benton.

We currently cover the following Benton-area school district: Benton School District, Bryant School District and Harmony Grove School District.

Chalk Talk: Helping Your Child Develop Organizational Skills

It is important that children learn how to be organized when they are young. This will help them be more successful in team sports and prepare for middle and high school. There are many ways that parents can assist a child with developing these vital skills, including having a family calendar that everyone contributes to or teaching your child how to use a checklist to prepare for a party or a sporting event. Also, assigning your child chores that include sorting or categorizing such as helping with laundry or cleaning closets helps them to practice their organizational skills. Finally, it is important that you reward and support your child as he or she develops these skills that will be used throughout his or her life.
