Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bethany District Curriculum

Data and probability are an integral part of the Math program. The students learn how to gather, record, and analyze the data on a particular subject of the graph. Reading graphs, such as bar graphs, line graphs, and circle graphs, will be accomplished by the students, and they will be able to identify the purpose of the graph and become successful at drawing conclusions from the information of the graph.

In English Language Arts, students learn how to read fluently and quickly so that they will comprehend the text. The students are exposed to text that is on their instructional level, so that it is challenging yet attainable in order to increase their reading level. The teacher helps students in small group reading instruction by engaging them in repeated text to increase fluency through practice. The students also use practice reading texts with punctuation, such as commas, colons, and ending punctuation so they can comprehend the text to the best of their ability.

Chalk Talk: Band and Orchestra

The orchestra and band program is actually a class that the students take for a grade, but also to showcase their talents. Music programs not only have a class during the school day, but sometimes the students practice after school. The students also perform during events, such as concerts, football games, fundraisers, and parades. They also participate in competitions throughout the state and district. Any student who has a love of music can reap the benefits of being a member of the band or orchestra!
