Biloxi District and Curriculum

The Biloxi Public Schools use the Common Core Standards and Mississippi Frameworks to guide instruction in all subjects. The core academic subjects follow essential strands of learning, such as geometry in Math, so that students are able to build skills that will prepare them to handle advanced work in high school and college. The curriculum also was created with an eye toward the future, and students gain the necessary skills to also be prepared for the workforce or military service.

We currently cover the following Biloxi-area school district: Biloxi Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Biloxi District Curriculum

The schools begin Science education in kindergarten and children are exposed to physical, earth and life sciences. They learn how to ask questions and begin the investigative process, plus they begin to classify objects by observing them to see what they are made of. This process proceeds as students begin to change the questions into a hypothesis, and then follow the scientific method to discover outcomes. As students enter high school, they take these skills to explore the physical world, biology, chemistry, and physics.

In Social Studies, Biloxi Public Schools also are able to open students’ eyes in new ways. The students begin by exploring the world they know. They delve into the meaning of familiar songs, or the ways that geography varies throughout the world by using different maps to discover topography, weather, or populations. They also learn local history, Native American history, and current events, as they forecast what the future may hold.

Chalk Talk: Teaching Your Child To Be Organized

Organization and academic success seem to go hand-in-hand. However, this is an area that is not always natural for a child. There is not an easy method when aiding a child in this skill. Quite often it is a matter of trial and error. Include the child in any changes that are to be undertaken. One of the first places to be organized could be the backpack or book bag. Guide them to keep certain school supplies in the same place every time and they will spend less time looking for items. This also translates to their study place. Whether a desk or a table, the child needs to know where the needed supplies are for the assignment they are working on. By beginning with these few organizational skills, the child is well on their way to a successful education.
