Bisbee District and Curriculum

Maricopa County schools follow the standards of the state of Arizona. The curriculum outlines a comprehensive learning program that facilitates the acquisition of the knowledge and skills that students need to be successful in life and work. The curriculum has many goals within each subject to ensure that students master grade level concepts each year, and more broadly to ensure students are prepared for their post-secondary life with a full range of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

We currently cover the following Bisbee-area school district: Bisbee Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bisbee District Curriculum

Arizona has developed a College and Career Readiness program of curriculum for their schools. In Mathematics, students learn to conceptualize mathematical concepts, operations and value placement. They also learn higher functioning properties that help them understand how to work with complex equations or geometry problems. The mathematics curriculum is designed to prepare students for competition in the global world of careers and is integrated with technology to maximize learning.

Bisbee schools adhere to the state standards by teaching reading, writing and listening skills, as well as writing and comprehension. Students read works of fiction and informational texts in History, Science and Social Studies. In higher grades students begin applying their skills in a more complex form of writing and reading. They learn to write to persuade others to their point of view. They also write informative papers. The skills they learn are intended to prepare them for college and a career.

Chalk Talk: Learning in a Multicultural Classroom

In an increasingly diverse culture, students have the great chance to learn about cultures through their basic classroom experiences. Teachers and families should learn about the cultures of English Language Learners represented in the classroom. With that knowledge, planning different events throughout the year to highlight different cultural traditions will make all the students feel appreciated. That will increase their feelings of self-esteem, thus lending to academic success. This is just one step that will help you on your way to understanding your students. At the high school level, being able to discuss how different cultural backgrounds effect interpretations of literature or an understanding of relevancy within a history or math lesson, can lead to fascinating classroom discussions and increase all students critical thinking skills.
