Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bloomfield District Curriculum

Common Core provides curriculum standards for all grade levels particularly in the area of Mathematics and English and Language Arts. The focus of Common Core is on providing students with the skills they will need to be successful in college or other advanced educational opportunities and in the workforce. In English and Language Arts (ELA) students learn to read, write, speak and listen using correct English. The same ELA standards are also applied to coursework in other core classes including Social Studies, Science and Technology courses. Students read both informational texts such as they might find in the workplace and literature for reading material.

In Mathematics, students are focused in on basic mathematical subjects such as computational skills, algebra, geometry, statistics, probability and measurement. Students are expected to be mathematically literate by the end of high school and should be able to apply their math skills in the workforce and in higher math.
