Bloomington District and Curriculum

At Monroe County Community School Corporation, curriculum is developed, adapted, implemented and evaluated on a continual basis with the aim of maintaining the quality of education. Cumulative and continuous learning is achieved through effective implementation at all grade levels. The mathematics curriculum is devised to enable students to practice concept-based learning which can later be implemented in practical mathematics. The objectives of the study of mathematics are best achieved by a diversity of learning experiences directly related to the curriculum.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bloomington District Curriculum

MCCSC’s English program is based on research and evidence that describes competencies necessary for all students to develop interest in learning the language and allows them to use their imagination. It also develops their skills in reading, writing and focusing their energy on creative purposes.

The Science curriculum combines theoretical study with practical experiences that enable students to understand the subject. The Outdoor Education Program is a planned curriculum activity in which fourth and fifth grade students are given the opportunity to spend three days and two nights in a school setting away from home.

Keeping Informed: Recent Bloomington Educational News

  • Athletic Accomplishments - The Bloomington South High School Girls' Basketball team won a game against Arlington High School in an astounding manner. The final score was 107-2 where Arlington managed to score two points on two free throws that took place in the second and third quarters.
  • High Ability Programs - Throughout the program, all MCCSC students have opportunities for acceleration programs. Accelerated Learning Program for Students (ALPS) offers academically and intellectually identified high ability students the opportunities to participate in academic programs designed to provide challenge and rigor. Equity, consistency, legitimacy and significance are the four guiding principles for identification of students to be served by the High Ability Program at MCCSC.
  • Environmental Initiatives - MCCSC has been a part of the Integrated Pest Management School Program established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to reduce pesticide risk and exposure to children. MCCSC's IPM pilot program was developed in the mid-1990s and was based on four fundamentals; education, insect identification, population monitoring and knowledge of biology of pests and beneficial insects. Based on the pilot programs success, MCCSC expanded its project to include 18 schools within the district and achieved amazing success.
