Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Boise District Curriculum

Elementary Mathematics classes focus on the basic areas of understanding numbers, problem solving, data handling and interpretation, measurements, technology, and beginning concepts in algebra. All areas are introduced at developmentally appropriate times during students' years in elementary school. In the upper grades, a variety of classes are offered to assist students in developing their skills and understanding of mathematics to prepare them for further studies or the world of work.

The Language Arts program exposes students to a wide variety of quality literature and also connects this crucial set of skills across other disciplines, such as social studies and science. In junior high, the Language Arts curriculum continues building on this foundation and focuses on developing effective general writing skills, reading and writing poetry and other creative works, and analyzing literature. Further development of these core skills continues in high school along with more comprehensive exposure to diverse literature and more developed writing projects such as persuasive personal essays, research papers, and literary analyses.
