Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Boonton District Curriculum
The Language Arts Literacy Standards have been made more rigorous with the introduction of more informational, non-fiction texts within the reading strand. The goal is to help students read and understand a variety of styles of texts, and to use appropriate analytic skills on different genres. This also helps their writing skills and gives them models of greater range so that they can write both creatively and informatively. Both the reading and writing strands also emphasize vocabulary acquisition and understanding of language usage.
In the past few years, the high school has added many new course offerings and partnered with a local university to allow students to take courses for college credits. Boonton also began offering Gateway Academy for Gifted and Talented students, which has been endorsed as a School Choice option for students in surrounding counties. Additionally, to conform to the 21st century learning expectations, the district established the organizations the Future Business Leaders of America and the Technology Leaders Association, which focuses on STEM activities.

Chalk Talk: Cover Letters Tips
Resumes should always be accompanied by cover letters, which explain to employees why the candidate is seeking a specific position. In the cover letter, it is perfectly fine to touch on components such as education and experience, but one should remember that these items are most likely detailed on the resume, so the information should not be repetitive. It is a great idea to explain how one’s background has helped prepare their for the specific position and what it entails. Candidates should demonstrate their enthusiasm for the position and why they feel they would be a good fit for both the job and the company. In the letter, it should be evident that the candidate conducted at least some prior research on the company to show their interest.
