Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bow District Curriculum

The curriculum in the seven content areas of English language arts, math, science, social studies, physical education, fine arts, and foreign languages are regularly reviewed by the Curriculum Steering Committees. The district provides learning benchmarks that help parents understand what their children should know, understand, and be able to do in each subject by the conclusion of the school year.

The Senior Project provides a research opportunity for students throughout a semester. Project Lead This Way is for students interested in engineering, promoting the use of applying what has been learned in the classroom to real-world problems. Besides these specialized programs, the school also offers Advanced Placement courses in the social sciences, natural sciences, English and math. For those students looking to take on additional challenges, honors courses are also offered at the high school level. There are also elective programs in the arts and technology that expose students to topics such as graphic design and web publishing.

Chalk Talk: How to Minimize Stress in High School

For a modern day teenager, the stress level endured on a daily basis can prove to be overwhelming. Inundated with concerns about college, relationships and a host of other stressors, teens of today must learn to balance their responsibilities and priorities. A student can minimize stress by staying organized. Have students keep a calendar or planner to update on a daily basis. Secondly, a student must learn to prioritize. Certain tasks can wait until other deadline sensitive tasks have been completed. Lastly, it may seem counterproductive, but if a student takes some time out of his or her day to focus on activities and hobbies that interest him, s/he’ll feel more refreshed and capable of handling other challenges yet to come.
