Both districts seek to develop a wide array of skill sets that permit each student to express their creativity, explore their curiosities and achieve their highest academic potential. Student learning is cross-curricular, with curriculum and instruction emphasizing the connections between subjects and their real-world applications. By the time students graduate, they will have all the tools they need to be active members of society.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Branchburg District Curriculum

Curriculum development in the districts is undertaken with the purpose of delivering a comprehensive K-12 education that fosters the development of knowledge and skills required for living a successful life. With instruction in a variety of academic, social, emotional and physical areas, students learn how to be good students, how to communicate, how to participate in society, how to respect others and how to prepare for careers in the 21st Century workplace.

The Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards guide curriculum development in both local school districts. As part of the requirements of these standards, students undertake a study of technology. The creativity and innovation strand facilitates student understanding of how to utilize modern technology to construct knowledge. Students learn how to use a digital camera and editing software to produce creative photographs. Digital tools are also used to design a learning game that demonstrates knowledge and skills that are essential to one or more content areas.

Chalk Talk: Three Skills for Academic Success

Helping your child become academically successful requires a lot of hard work and dedication from both of you. However, there are three easy – yet effective – ways to help your child reach his or her greatest potential. First, help your child set educational goals. Establishing goals will help your child develop a pathway to academic success that is easily attainable and much less overwhelming. Second, help your child identify his or her strengths and weaknesses. Provide opportunities for your son or daughter to show off their academic prowess, but also give them a chance to practice skills that aren’t their forte. By building their confidence you will help them become a better-rounded student. Lastly, instill in your child effective time management skills. Understanding how to prioritize tasks and that work comes before play will be essential skills for your child to have if they are to become the best student they can be.
