Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Brandon District Curriculum

In grades K-12, the core subjects of Mathematics, Language Arts, History, and Science are taught in a progressive fashion. This school system is preparing students for next generation learning challenges through its use of technology and state-of-the-art facilities. The teachers in K-12 teach using the most recent methods of instruction, such as differentiation of students, peer collaboration, and using assessment to drive instruction.

The Language Arts curriculum focuses on written and spoken communication of all types. Students read literature from around the world, non-fiction and news media pieces, and genres like poetry and drama. The writing expectations call upon students to learn expository, persuasive and reflective style pieces and develop processes for strong writing habits. Discussion and presentation skills are also developed in Language Arts courses, and often based around the texts students are studying in class.
