Brenham District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
Brenham Independent School District uses the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skill as the foundation of a curriculum that sets up every student for success. The district has also taken on the Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts, which provide that students learn these subjects in an integrated fashion with other subject areas. The Common Core also emphasizes the development of critical thinking skills. Both of these subjects will help these students become effective communicators and problem solvers in their future careers or schooling.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Brenham District Curriculum
The science curriculum at Brenham Independent School District shows students, from the beginning, that they do not need to look very far to see science in action. They begin by introducing them to elements of the different sciences, such as various animals, weather, rocks, plants and more. They then discover what each of these have by looking deeper in depth. They look at habitats and adaptations, what creates different weather patterns, or where each plant can find nutrients.
Mathematics at Brenham Independent School District introduces students to number sense. They first find out that when looking at a set, each object in that set has a number. They then see what combining or taking away objects or sets does. This is the beginning of numbers in equations like addition or subtraction. From here they learn that they can solve equations when one of the numbers in a set is missing. In addition to all of this, the students begin to learn other ways of using numbers when they learn how to tell time, count money or find the area or perimeter of an object.

Chalk Talk: Quiet Children
Parents that have a child that prefers to read a book or spend time alone are often misunderstood by parents. Actually, it is important for children to develop the ability to be quietly on their own engaged in some type of quiet activity like reading or drawing. These children may use this time to process the world or find spiritual rest. To take away some of the worry a parent could ask if the child feel like they are rejected or excluded by others or if others are teasing or bullying. Also ask if the child is lonely or sad a lot or if they feel that they would like a different life. If any of these are answered affirmatively, work with the child to help come up with a plan of action to help them in these areas. If, however, they just enjoy this time or love reading, allow them to have this time and enjoy that they are finding way to enjoy themselves as they are.
