Bryan District and Curriculum

Bryan City Schools’ motto is “The district that never, ever give up on kids.” This commitment to helping each child achieve his or her potential is evident in the manner in which the district approaches education. Working closely with the community, parents, guardians, and other stakeholders, teachers and staff members devise learning experiences that are rigorous and relevant to life and work in the 21st century. Additionally, Bryan City Schools strives to help students make connections between that which they learn in the classroom and how it is applicable to everyday life. A focus on individualized attention also helps the district achieve its goal of facilitating the growth of every child. This individualized attention is possible because the district strives to maintain small class sizes, particularly at the elementary level.

We currently cover the following Bryan-area school district: Bryan City School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bryan District Curriculum

Bryan’s high school English language arts curriculum includes studies that improve students’ ability to speak and listen. Activities focus on comprehension, collaboration, and presentation of knowledge. Students take part in small and whole group discussions, learning how to engage in give-and-take of information and ideas. Learners acquire active listening skills that allow them to engage properly with other speakers. This includes asking probing questions, waiting for a break in the discussion to ask a question, and providing nonverbal feedback to the speaker that indicates they are engaged in listening.

The technology curriculum in Bryan focuses on helping students gain insight into the usefulness of technology in everyday life. This begins with an examination of how technology has changed over the course of time, particularly in the last century. Students examine the development of computers and analyze their impact on the economic and social aspects of the modern world. Learners also predict the types of technologies that might emerge in the future, and identify ways in which our future world might look different because of these emerging technologies. The social impacts of technology are also explored.

Chalk Talk: Three Tips for Getting the Most Financial Aid

If you have a child set to attend college in the near future, preparations should be in the works to apply for scholarships and other sources of financial aid. There are several things you can do in order to help your child get the biggest aid package possible. First, help your child fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This document is vitally important because it will help determine how much aid your child can receive. The FAFSA is a highly detailed document, so beginning early and submitting it early will be highly beneficial. Second, the FAFSA takes into account both your income and assets and your child’s income and assets. Moving money into a 529 College Savings Plan helps boost your child’s financial aid eligibility because funds in a 529 plan do not count as assets. Money in a 529 account can then be withdrawn tax free, so long as it is used for an educational purpose.
