Bullhead City District and Curriculum

Having started in a one room schoolhouse, education in Bullhead City has come a long way. Students attend the many schools and programs in Bullhead City Elementary School District and the Colorado River Union High School District. Both districts adhere to the Arizona State Standards at all grade levels and in all core subjects: Mathematics, Reading/Literature, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Technology. The curriculum also adheres to the Standard’s accountability and assessment processes and encourages the schools to focus on literacy in every subject.

We currently cover the following Bullhead City-area school districts: Bullhead City Elementary School District and Colorado River Union High School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bullhead City District Curriculum

The administration, teachers and staff of Bullhead City Elementary School District and Colorado River Union High School provide traditional and alternative programs and services to meet the needs of every student. One program called “Beyond Textbooks” is a curriculum model recently implemented in the District to increase student achievement in the content areas of Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, History and Social Studies.

In this program, students learn concepts as units. At the end of the unit they are assessed with five questions. If they answer the questions correctly, students can participate in Enrichment. If they do not answer the assessment questions correctly, they will participate in Reteach to practice and reinforce the concept. Beyond Textbooks is one more exemplary program to prepare their students for life beyond the beyond the classroom.

They began their projects by brainstorming ideas; then they completed a proposal and submitted it to their teacher for approval. Once the proposal was approved, the students began the research on their experiment. Students are expected to keep a log book on their data, document all changes to their experiment and complete graphical representations of the data collected. Students are to write a research paper based on the research conducted. Their final projects, including a display and report, will be on display for students and parents to view. Projects will also be judged during the Science Fair.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of a Healthy Classroom

It is important for our school children to learn basic practices in cold prevention in the classroom. Having a “health station” is a great start in preventing the spread of germs. If a teacher has a sink in the classroom, make sure it is stocked with enough soap and paper towels. Be sure that there is a lined trash can in the immediate vicinity. There should be tissues and a pump hand sanitizer right there for any student who needs to blow their nose. If there is no sink in the classroom, set up the tissues, trash can with liner and hand sanitizer in a designated area of the classroom as the “health station.”
