Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bullhead City District Curriculum
The administration, teachers and staff of Bullhead City Elementary School District and Colorado River Union High School provide traditional and alternative programs and services to meet the needs of every student. One program called “Beyond Textbooks” is a curriculum model recently implemented in the District to increase student achievement in the content areas of Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, History and Social Studies.
In this program, students learn concepts as units. At the end of the unit they are assessed with five questions. If they answer the questions correctly, students can participate in Enrichment. If they do not answer the assessment questions correctly, they will participate in Reteach to practice and reinforce the concept. Beyond Textbooks is one more exemplary program to prepare their students for life beyond the beyond the classroom.

Bullhead City District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
Having started in a one room schoolhouse, education in Bullhead City has come a long way. Students attend the many schools and programs in Bullhead City Elementary School District and the Colorado River Union High School District. Both districts adhere to the Arizona State Standards at all grade levels and in all core subjects: Mathematics, Reading/Literature, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Technology. The curriculum also adheres to the Standard’s accountability and assessment processes and encourages the schools to focus on literacy in every subject.
Keeping Informed: Recent Bullhead City Educational News
- Year-Long Science Projects for Junior High School Students - Since several Fox Creek Junior High School students are mid-way through their school year, they are also mid-way through their Science Fair Projects. They began their projects by brainstorming ideas; then they completed a proposal and submitted it to their teacher for approval. Once the proposal was approved, the students began the research on their experiment. Students are expected to keep a log book on their data, document all changes to their experiment and complete graphical representations of the data collected. Students are to write a research paper based on the research conducted. Their final projects, including a display and report, will be on display for students and parents to view. Projects will also be judged during the Science Fair.
- Coyote Canyon Elementary School Offers Special Programs - “Children and learning always come first” at Coyote Canyon School. In their great efforts to enhance the educational experience for every single student in their school, the administration has implemented several special programs to supplement and enhance the curriculum of every grade level, including: Read Across America & Visiting Author Program, Gifted & Talented (G.A.T.E.), Character Counts, Arizona Nutrition Program; Healthy Kids Weekend Backpack Program, Chorus, Mariachi Band and Student Council.
- Diamondback Elementary School Students are Encouraged to ACT - Many schools in the state of Arizona are adopting- as part of their curriculum-a character- building education program. Diamondback Elementary has done the same; however, the school has modified their program to meet the needs of their younger students. The Diamondback administration has developed the A.C.T. program where students are expected to do the following: Are Respectful and Trustworthy, Care about Each other, Take Responsibility. Students caught in the act of doing something good will be given a ticket. The school will gather at monthly assemblies where awards and incentives will be presented to those students who showed these specific character traits.

SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of a Healthy Classroom
It is important for our school children to learn basic practices in cold prevention in the classroom. Having a “health station” is a great start in preventing the spread of germs. If a teacher has a sink in the classroom, make sure it is stocked with enough soap and paper towels. Be sure that there is a lined trash can in the immediate vicinity. There should be tissues and a pump hand sanitizer right there for any student who needs to blow their nose. If there is no sink in the classroom, set up the tissues, trash can with liner and hand sanitizer in a designated area of the classroom as the “health station.”
