Burleson Independent School District helps students face an ever-changing world by developing a curriculum that is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. The curriculum helps them when they reach high school and are ready for a more advanced range of options in these classes to take in Language Arts, Science, History or Mathematics, so when they graduate they have the foundation to achieve their goals at university or in a career. The curriculum is also reviewed and updated regularly to ensure it meets current standards.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Burleson District Curriculum
The science curriculum includes the study of the natural world. The students at Burleson schools are able to use a garden to help with this study. Students learn about the life cycle of plants, the structure of soil, along with how plants and humans rely on each other. When these students are in middle school they take this knowledge and add knowledge they gain on field trips to outdoor camps. Here they are able to see even more plant and animal life than they can find in their garden.
Burleson Schools introduce mathematics to students in the earliest years. When students begin their educational journey they learn how to count, recognize patterns and how to record information in a simple graph. By the time these students are in middle school they will have enough skills to be able to set goals for themselves every six weeks. The classroom teacher and the student make sure that the students keep their graphs in mind. This ability alone helps students that are facing projects for which they to have set goals throughout.

Chalk Talk: First Day Fears
As the first day of school draws near, many children feel a sense of nervousness, or fear. As a parent, there are a few things to do that can help them overcome this feeling. First of all, talk with the child about what it is that they are afraid of. At times, just talking about it will be enough to help. Beginning school routines also can help overcome fear. Have the child set out clothes before going to bed, then have them wake up at the time they will during a school day. This helps them get used to a rhythm which may help bring comfort. Finally, assure them that feeling afraid or nervous before something new is natural and that there are many children that feel like this. The fact that there are others feeling this way and they are not alone will help them overcoming this anxiety and help them face the new year with a better outlook.
