Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Burlingame District Curriculum
Each subject requires that students use prior year’s knowledge to build more advanced subject area understanding. The subjects have a broad framework under which a series of detailed skills and knowledge sets are described regarding each of the individual topics for student learning.
In the subject of Language Arts, the curriculum explains how students will learn to read literary and informational texts, write for a range of purposes, use a writing process, and to listen and speak with critical thinking skills. The Math curriculum describes the skills involved in numeracy, algebra, geometry and data analysis for each year. In the Sciences, students are instructed in earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and technology.

Keeping Informed: Recent Burlingame Educational News
- Project-Based Learning - One educational initiative at Burlingame Intermediate School is to incorporate more project-based work and assessments for the students. Students develop a range of skills in terms of teamwork, problem-solving and content area discovery through this model.
- Booster Groups - Parents in the district have started Booster Clubs to support various activities and extracurriculars at the schools. The Boosters create many fundraising opportunities throughout the year and activities for families and the whole community to participate in.
- Video Production at BHS - One of the new course offerings that has been developed at Burlingame High School is in Video Production. Not only do students learn a number of technical and production skills, but the output of the course offers a great window into current events at the school.
