Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Butte District Curriculum

During K-12 Reading instruction, the children learn such concepts such as determining the meaning of vocabulary words that are technical and non-academic and relevant to the specific grade level. Using two or more texts, the students are taught how to compare and contrast events, concepts, main ideas and themes, and information of the two texts. The students also will, on grade level, determine multiple differences and similarities of non-fiction reading material, including those of Native American subject matter.

In Mathematics, students are taught to understand strands that include estimating of a variety of numbers, such as whole numbers in varying forms (decimals, money, and multiple digits) and solving problems while comparing their estimate to the actual answer. The students are also instructed how to round numbers to the nearest ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, and on depending on the grade level they are on. These help build a strong ability to perform quantitative reasoning tasks.
