Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Calipatria District Curriculum

In English/Language Arts, the curriculum lays out a program by which students develop an enjoyment for reading and writing which will serve as the basis of their ability to read for information and understanding. Students are taught basic skills in grammar and vocabulary, and are required to write extensively. Strategies for understanding, interpreting, and analyzing literary texts can be accomplished through modeling of such thought and through in-class discussions.

For programs and learning initiatives that combine subjects or use a particular instructional approach, the guiding rationales are laid out so that instruction is clear and the expectations are detailed so that there is a way to measure student success and achievement.

Calipatria District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Students attending Calipatria Unified are taught based on the guidelines of the Common Core Standards and the California Content Standards. These are frameworks that provide a description of the overarching goals for each subject while also detailing exact standards that students need to meet in their subjects. Overarching goals for each subject include the development of practical and conceptual understanding of the subject material.

The framework for Math lays out standards that students should meet in the development of their ability to reason, recognize and solve problems, use computational tools and models, and find structure and patterns. While these higher order thinking skills may seem abstract, they are effectively taught through the problem-solving strategies laid out for students starting in kindergarten and through the senior year of high school.

We currently cover the following Calipatria-area school district: Calipatria Unified School District.
